Bumblebee Wins At Chicago Auto Show

Last year saw General Motors launching an ad campaign of sorts in the box-office hit "Transformers". The said movie featured several General Motors vehicles which includes a Hummer, a Pontiac, a GMC and a Chevy. The Chevy vehicle in the film is a 1977 Camaro which went on to transform to a 2009 model.

The said Camaro is the alternate mode of the Autobot Bumblebee. It has become an instantly popular character and this year, Bumblebee's presence could still be felt. Recently, at the Chicago Auto Show, the Chevrolet Camaro Bumblebee won in the Best of Show Awards for the "Vehicle I'd Like To Have In My Driveway" category.

The said category is the most closely contested of the five categories in the Best of Show voting. In the said category, visitors of the Chicago Auto Show were asked to pick any vehicle in the said event. For the other four categories, automotive journalists narrowed down the choices to nine vehicles per category.

The Chevrolet Camaro Bumblebee garnered eight percent of the votes to take the plum. Bumblebee was hotly contested for the award by the Dodge Challenger, Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, and the Nissan GT-R. All of these vehicles have been attracting visitors of the event.

While the Dodge Challenger failed to win the said award, it was at least voted as the Best All-New Production Vehicle. The Challenger easily won the award garnering one third of the total votes. The only serious threat to the Challenger is the Shelby GT500KR which garnered 18 percent of the votes.

The Dodge Challenger also won the Best Chicago Auto Show World Introduction with an overwhelming 56 percent of the votes. Its closest rival is the GMC Denali XT concept hybrid pickup truck.
